I am so excited! I have enrolled in Bärbel Dressler’s historical pattern making course, Repertoire.
I took Immersion and am glad I did. But it focused too much on Adobe Illustrator and not enough on how to actually create patterns beyond the most basic. I’ve been flailing lately. I can’t find a direction that feels authentic to me and one that excites me. Also, I want to actually study pattern design, not just learn how to make “pretty pattern.” I’m also interested in the historical lineage of a lot of the common motifs and patterns we see and live with everyday. I need a challenge and I think I may have found it in this course
The fact that Bärbel comes at pattern design from a historical perspective is thrilling. She is a self-described “nerd” and as a former teacher, I am definitely looking forward to the next 10+ weeks!
