Surface Design for textiles, wallpaper, home decor & more
Studio of Considered Things - Bee Balm in Bloom collection

Each collection begins with drawings, research and pattern frameworks from historical design. I usually start with the hero print inspired by a scene or idea from nature, then research every part of that story. Historical and vintage references typically influence my work. Once the hero print is set, I build out the narrative through secondary and blender coordinates.

With the structure in place, I shift to color. The palette must stand on its own yet stay balanced so it supports whatever surface it lands on. I refine until the colors feel neither too strong nor too subdued.

I give the same focus to motifs, details, texture, linework, and layout. Each design must stand alone or sit easily within a collection. All patterns are layered repeats made in Adobe Illustrator and designed for fabric, wallpaper, and home decor.

Monarch Haven

When I decided to grow a native perennial garden in my small urban yard, one of the first pollinators I planted for was the monarch butterfly. This collection is inspired by milkweed and the monarchs it sustains through every stage of their life cycle as they make their 3,000-mile migration each year.

Paradise Wild

It began as a Toile de Jouy reimagined through block printing, layered with historical Indian influences like vining florals, Mughal boteh, and other traditional motifs. The collection explores the lush, exotic beauty of the Indian jungle.

Meadow's Edge

It began as a nod to millefleurs and the quiet stories unfolding at the edge of a meadow bordering a deciduous forest in early spring, two ecosystems and two seasons meeting as life bursts forward everywhere. Designed for children’s rooms, apparel, and home wallpaper and textiles, this collection brings the magic of early spring into any space.

Summer Gala

This collection began with my fascination for a native perennial that looked so exotic I couldn’t believe it was indigenous to the colder climates of the Northeast. As I researched further, I discovered it was the larval host of the Zebra Longwing butterfly, a butterfly that instantly made me think of an elegant garden party at a stately mansion. And so the collection began.
